Do you need to tell HMRC about your Vinted, Depop or eBay sales?
Drop in the sales file from your account, or type in your totals. You get your profit for each tax year and a plain answer, based on GOV.UK's rules. Everything runs in your browser. Your file never leaves your device.
1 What are you selling?
Not sure? GOV.UK says that if you buy or make goods to sell at a profit, you're probably trading. Clearing out your wardrobe or loft usually isn't.
2 Add your sales
Vinted doesn't offer a sales download. Use the yearly report Vinted sends you, or add up your sales from your Balance page. Enter amounts for one UK tax year (6 April to 5 April).
3 What did the items cost you?
Add what you paid for the items, plus packaging and any postage you paid yourself. If your file has a cost column, it's already counted. Enter extra costs for each tax year below.

How this works
- The £1,000 trading allowance is tested against your total sales before costs, not your profit (GOV.UK). It covers all your trading together, across every platform.
- Over £1,000, you register for Self Assessment and deduct either £1,000 or your real costs, whichever helps you more. This page works out both.
- Platform reports run by calendar year. Your tax return runs from 6 April to 5 April. This page splits your sales into tax years for you.
- A report doesn't mean you owe tax. Platforms report sellers with 30 or more sales or about £1,700 a year (GOV.UK).
